Can we get Mr. Do to come back home to RQ?!?!?

Could this cabinet be coming to RQ?

We are in talks with possibly getting a Mr. Do cabinet (one of the five games we had on our missing gems list)!  There are two major hurdles that we are trying to clear:

(1) The cabinet is in Manitowc, WI, so we will need to figure out how to get the cabinet from the Cheese State to the Twin Cities.

(2) The seller is asking for $225, and after the recent purchase of Street Fighter II: Championship Edition, the FORQ account is currently tapped out.

We are trying to figure out how to transport the game from Point A to Point B, but the shipping aspect is a non-issue if we're not able to raise the funds to purchase the cabinet.

That's where we need your help!  We are going to to an emergency fundraising drive, with $225 as our goal to hit (although we may need a little more too depending on gas reimbursement for whoever would be picking up the game).  If you are able to donate, please CLICK HERE to go to the page that will take you to the Friends of Rusty Quarters PayPal account, and then make sure to tell your friends and family about this and have them support the efforts as well!

Let's make this dream of getting Mr. Do back at Rusty Quarters a reality!  Thank you in advance!!!

  1. Wouldn't it be better to obtain one of those cabinets with 50 games built into it rather than individual cabinets with just one game? This way you could get Mr. Do and Donkey Kong 3, among others.

    1. A very fair point, because multi cabs would give the selection of multiple games, some which are harder to find. It may be something that RQ may put in some day, but one of the aspects of having a classic arcade is recapturing the era of arcades in which each game had their own dedicated cabinet. Many cabinets had a specific feel to them that made the gaming experience unique. My favorite game is Galaga, and I have the game in just about every specific format possible. There is something about playing that game on a dedicated Galaga cabinet that makes the experience completely unique. The controls are set up a little different, the artwork on the cabinet, the overall effect is something that you can't get from a MAME or reproduction.

It sounds sappy, but the thing about Rusty Quarters Arcade and other classic arcades like it is that it captures how video gaming used to be, before we were hooked up on Xbox Live and playing by yourself in your basement. It was a very social atmosphere, and each game had it's own personality. Yes, it's hokey, but that's what makes Rusty Quarters so amazing!

  2. Fair argument. The artistic quality of a cabinet is significant for many games, although how many of those really cool decals were hidden because a cabinet was sandwiched between two others in a line of games?

A multi-cab loses something, sure, but the cost and space savings make it too economical not to offer, especially when there are multi-player games like Off Road and that Simpsons game everyone seems to love that take up plenty of space and aren't replicated in a multi-cab.
